OK, a bit about my interests in participatory media and research. I moved to Hazard, Kentucky in the year 2000 and work as a regional epidemiologist for the Kentucky River District Health Department. I also serve as a community based (voluntary) faculty member for the University of Kentucky. I provide some leadership for the health module each fall in a program for graduate students called CREEK Community-based Research Education in Eastern Kentucky at the UK Center for Excellence in Rural Health in Hazard. (I lived in Berkeley for about eight years and earned an MPH at the UC Berkeley in 1975. I am particulary interested in participatory research activities and strategies related to cancer prevention and control in Appalachia given the burden of disease in this region. My interest in the PMG relates to some of the media work at Appalshop in Whitesburg, Kentucky.
